The SLU Polling Location

The SLU Students for Voters Rights organized a drive to put a polling location on SLU’s campus. In the primary only 55 students voted at the polling loction that was located 1.8 miles from the campus. At 10:15 am this morning 483 students voted, at 2:30pm over 1000 students had voted.

Say what you will about the youth vote, but if this isn’t a sign that Young Voters aren’t excited about this election, then I don’t know what is.

Bark Obama

While driving around, we got some video of a dog barking “OBAMA!”

Tomfoolery in St. Louis County

From the comments:

The scanning machine was jammed at the Webster Groves Public Library when I voted at 6:45 A.M. My ballot was put into a slot marked for provisional ballots.

If this happens ANYWHERE, please find your poll monitor and let them know that this is unacceptable.  All ballots cast should NOT be on a provisional ballot.

We’ve alerted the Obama campaign and they will look into the issue.

Webster Groves’ turnout

Report from the field: 653 of just a hair shy of 1600 registered voters in a Webster Groves precinct have cast their ballot … before 10:15am.

That’s a lot…  And very encouraging.

Don’t sit on the sidelines

We aren’t — St. Louis City Democrats have Brian Wahby on the Microphone in the Strikeforce RV.

If you see this RV flying around Midtown, Downtown, Dogtown or Dutchtown, help us make history by voting!

Scanner breakdowns

We just received another report of a scanner breaking down in Midtown at the polling place at Heritage House Apartments, 2800 Olive Street.

We were informed that the ballots will be counted separately later today, possibly delaying returns.

More information as it develops.

Broken voting machines

Word from the strikeforce08 Twitter feed is that optical scan & electronic voting machines not working at Fairview Elementary School, Jennings High School and Mark Twain School.

Voter Intimidation in North County

DEVELOPING…

We had a tip come in our on Strikeforce Hotline that there are police circling Berkley Middle School in the Airport Township.

There are two issues in play:

  1. Police are circling the polling place, which according to our source, is making people in line uneasy.
  2. Poll workers are harassing voters over identification.

Obviously, voter intimdation in a predominately African American pocket of the metro area (77%, 2000 Census)is a very big deal.  At this time, we haven’t been able to determine whether or not the intimidated voters are being turned away or being given a provisional ballot.

Upon receiving the tip, we alerted the Obama lawyer at the polling place closest to our current location, who then called the “secret squirrel” hotline to provide the information we were given.  Shortly thereafter (and I mean like 4 seconds after he hung up), we received a phone call from the boiler room for more information.  We were then told that the campaign was dispatching a platoon of lawyers to deal with the problem immediately.

As we recieve more information, we’ll update the post.

“The line wrapped around the building at 5:15am!”

According to a report on the ground, the line to vote at Roe School in Dogtown is at least 100+ people deep.  People began lining up well before 5am - an hour before the polls opened.  Another report from @pubdef on Twitter: Yeatman School’s polling line is wrapped around the block.

Here is a submitted photo from the line at Roe School:

We’ll have more pictures of polling places, along with more first-hand accounts on the ground from each of the wards we visit.  Later in the day, we’ll put some videos on YouTube.

I cannot stress how important this is — stay in line!  Vote!

Obama wins early vote in New Hampshire

According to the Associated Press, Barack Obama and Joe Biden are enjoying their first (of hopefully many) victories.  The Obama/Biden ticket won Dixville Notch and Heart’s Location, N.H. first-in-the-nation voting by a 32-16 margin.

With 115 residents between them, Dixville Notch and Hart’s Location get every eligible voter to the polls beginning at midnight on Election Day. Between them, the towns have been enjoying their first-vote status since 1948.

Don’t take your foot off the gas

Judging from the picture above, Barack Obama isn’t.  And neither are the Young Democrats of Greater St. Louis - we’re busy packing up boxes full of literature to pass out at the polls tomorrow.  In fact, we’ll probably won’t sleep in the next 48 hours.  We’re doing everything we can to make sure that Barack Obama, Jay Nixon, Chris Koster, Robin Carnahan, Sam Page, Clint Zweifel and all the ballot initiatives are victorious tomorrow.

Here is the scene from outside the office:

What are you doing tomorrow to ensure victory?  Leave a comment and let us know!

Sarah Palin pranked

Alright, last night was Halloween, and we’ve got a delayed Trick AND Treat - Alaska Governor and VP Candidate Sarah Palin was pranked by two Quebec comedians on the radio, pretending to be French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

Here is the audio of the call:

If you were unsure about volunteering this weekend, unsure about doing everything you possibly could to ensure Barack Obama and Joe Biden win, just listen to the call again, laugh, and realize that Sarah Palin would be an embarrassment to the position of Vice President.  Then, go out and work your tails off.
